Mortgage Rate Rises Test AI Monitoring

Mortgage pricing is again moving upwards. HSBC UK and Molo are due to increase rates from 7 September, while Virgin Money has raised selected residential rates. Moneyfacts says the average two-year fixed rate edged up to 5.60% and the average five-year fix to 5.64% as swap rates rose. Reports of gilt-market volatility and expectations of further Bank Rate increases underline that lender repricing can be rapid, even though Bank Rate was held at 3.75% in July.

For advisers, this strengthens the case for AI-assisted rate monitoring and proactive remortgage triage. Tools can help identify clients approaching product expiry, compare changing product availability and prompt timely human contact. However, outputs must be checked against live lender criteria and a client’s full circumstances; automation should support, not replace, suitability assessment and documented advice.
