Faster Remortgages Need Controlled Automation

Mortgage distribution is accelerating through technology. Barclays is reported to be introducing a fast-track remortgage journey that could issue an offer within 24 hours and complete in five days for eligible switchers, while Project 28 is working across lenders, conveyancers and estate agents to make property transactions faster through earlier information sharing.

For advice firms, this strengthens the case for intelligent document collection, case triage, data extraction and workflow automation. The opportunity is to reduce repetitive administration and give advisers more capacity for complex affordability, protection and retirement-planning conversations. The control challenge is equally important: firms should test data quality, protect client information, retain auditable decision trails, and ensure automated prompts do not cause customers with non-standard circumstances or vulnerability indicators to be overlooked.
