Automation Targets Faster Complex Lending

Specialist lenders are increasing their focus on automation. Together has appointed a former RBS decisioning executive to lead an automation brief aimed at faster decisions on complex cases, while Novus has argued that redesigned mortgage journeys could make underwriting up to 20% faster without waiting for wider Smart Data adoption.

The opportunity for advisers is clear: better data capture, workflow automation and decisioning tools could reduce avoidable rework and give clients quicker certainty. However, specialist, adverse-credit and complex-income cases depend on context that may not be captured cleanly by automated processes. Advisers should understand where a lender’s system can accelerate a case and where early human underwriter engagement remains essential.

Government homebuying reforms, forecast to save property businesses £116m annually, add to the push for a more digitised transaction chain. The strongest adviser propositions will combine efficient technology with transparent communication, careful evidence collection and active management of exceptions.
