Specialist Lending’s AI Leadership Signal

Specialist lender Together has appointed Apoorv Kashyap, formerly Santander UK’s head of AI, as its first chief AI officer. The appointment suggests AI is moving from isolated experimentation towards executive-level strategy in UK property finance, particularly in specialist segments where cases can be complex and evidence-heavy.

Advisers should expect lenders to explore AI across document handling, triage, service operations and risk processes. This may shorten some turnaround times, but it also raises questions around explainability, vulnerable customers, data protection and the handling of non-standard income or property cases. Broker firms should ask technology partners and lenders how automated decisions are governed, when human escalation is available and how errors can be challenged.
