AI Mortgage Journeys: Opportunity With Guardrails

Twenty7tec has launched Steppl, an AI-ready client-engagement platform intended to let advice firms configure digital client journeys. At the same time, sector reporting points to young adults increasingly using AI for mortgage information, creating a clear demand for faster, digital-first interactions.

For advisers, AI can help organise fact-finds, explain process stages, prompt document collection and identify clients approaching a remortgage window. It should not, however, become an unmonitored substitute for regulated advice. The FCA says general-purpose AI chatbots are not regulated, and its research found that 44% of younger investors incorrectly believe AI-generated financial information is regulated.

  • Practical priority: clearly distinguish education, automation and regulated advice.
  • Control point: retain human review, auditable records and suitable disclosures where AI is used in client communications.
  • Client message: AI can support research and administration, but it is not a safety net or a replacement for personalised advice.
