AI Mortgage Tools: Opportunity Meets Consumer Duty

AI is moving further into the UK advice process. Sesame Bankhall Group’s partnership with AI-focused mortgage and protection technology specialist JammJar is intended to accelerate development of its OneView adviser and principal platform, while the Mortgage Innovation & Technology Awards finalists underline the pace of technology investment across the sector.

For advisers, the immediate opportunity is better workflow: faster fact-finds, document handling, case triage and clearer client communications. However, the FCA’s research on AI use is a timely warning: consumers may wrongly assume AI-generated financial information is regulated or that they have compensation if an AI-led decision proves harmful. General-purpose chatbots are not regulated advice.

  • Keep accountability with the adviser: use AI to support research and administration, not to replace suitability assessment.
  • Validate outputs: check lender criteria, sourcing results and any figures before sharing them.
  • Maintain an audit trail: record advice rationale, client disclosures and human oversight—particularly for vulnerable customers.
