AI, open finance, smart data and fraud prevention are moving to the centre of the mortgage technology agenda. The forthcoming Mortgage Innovation & Technology Live event reflects an industry focus on faster fact-finds, document collection, affordability assessment and better fraud detection. Mortgage firms are also beginning to use AI tools to chase, classify and check client documentation, reducing manual administration.
The opportunity is substantial, particularly where technology gives advisers more time for complex client conversations. However, Consumer Duty, data-protection obligations and financial-crime controls remain central. Firms should ensure AI outputs are reviewable, client data is handled securely, bias and errors are tested for, and advisers—not automation—remain accountable for advice, suitability and vulnerable-customer outcomes.
