Remortgaging Demand Meets AI Opportunity

UK Finance expects around 1.8 million mortgage deals to expire this year, with substantial refinancing activity also anticipated in 2027. This creates a sizeable advice opportunity, particularly for borrowers facing materially different payments from the rates secured during the low-rate period.

Remortgaging conversations can extend beyond product transfer versus external switch. They are an opportunity to examine household resilience, protection needs, savings buffers, unsecured debts, future borrowing plans and whether the mortgage term remains appropriate.

AI can help advisers segment clients by maturity date, estimated payment change, loan-to-value and vulnerability indicators, allowing earlier and more tailored engagement. Any prioritisation model should be tested for data quality and bias, with sensitive circumstances handled through human review and appropriate support.
