Mortgage industry panellists argue that smart data will only improve homebuying if lenders, brokers, conveyancers, valuers and technology providers collaborate. The potential prize is substantial: faster verification, fewer repeated document requests, better case tracking and more certainty for buyers and sellers.
For financial advisers, AI can add value when it works on reliable, permissioned data: summarising documents, highlighting missing information, prioritising cases at risk of delay and supporting more proactive client updates. However, interoperability and data quality remain the practical constraints; an AI layer cannot fix incomplete or inconsistent underlying information.
Good governance remains essential. Firms should ensure clients understand how their data is used, restrict access to approved systems, retain an audit trail and keep a trained adviser accountable for advice and suitability decisions.
