Smarter Lending, Faster Remortgages

Technology is becoming a more visible part of the mortgage proposition. Barclays is reportedly preparing a fast-track remortgage service for eligible switchers, aiming for an offer within 24 hours and completion within five days. Separately, Westmarq—formerly Legal & General Surveying Services—has adopted the tagline “The marq of intelligent lending decisions”, highlighting the strategic importance of property and valuation data.

Nivo has also refreshed its broker proposition around AI-assisted evidence collection, checked document packs and case analysis. These developments point to a workflow in which automation handles repetitive administration, data capture and triage, while advisers focus on exceptions, vulnerability, complex affordability and customer understanding.

Speed must not dilute Consumer Duty outcomes. Firms should test AI-supported processes for accuracy, bias, data security, explainability and clear escalation routes. The best implementation is likely to be one that reduces rework and client friction while making human judgement more visible at the moments that matter.
