AI adoption in mortgage advice is moving from general experimentation towards defined operational use cases. Industry commentary warns that broad, uncontrolled deployment can create “shadow IT” risks, while Mortgage Brain’s integration of LMS Select into CRM Brain shows how technology can reduce switching between systems for conveyancing quotes, instructions and case tracking.
The practical message for advisory firms is that AI should initially be deployed in bounded, auditable tasks: summarising permitted documents, drafting internal case notes, identifying missing evidence, triaging service queries and monitoring workflow delays. It should not be treated as an unsupervised substitute for regulated advice, affordability assessment, vulnerability identification or a human underwriter’s judgement.
Regulatory lens: The FCA says 88% of surveyed firms understand its expectations on supporting consumers and embedding Consumer Duty. Firms using AI should retain oversight, test outputs for errors and bias, control client-data access, keep decision records and ensure a competent human can challenge or override the tool.
